Basic Arrangement of Tuition Sessions
1). How many tuition sessions are there a week? How long is each session?
2). Can I choose the subject as well as the level of difficulty to offer tuition?
- Subject(s) to offer: you may choose more than one
- The highest level you can teach: you may choose from Primary one to Secondary Form six
If there are special circumstances, please let us know in the Remarks field of the online registration form. For example, one may provide tuitions for Mathematics and Economics up to Secondary Form five, but English only up to Primary six. For Mathematics, one may teach in both Chinese and English. But for Economics, one may teach in English only.
3). Where are tuition sessions carried out? Can I do this at the student’s home, my home or my office?
4). Would fast food shops be too noisy for the sessions? Do we get driven away?
5). Are the sessions held during the weekdays or at the weekends?
Registration
1). How to register as a volunteer teacher?
2). I am not a registered teacher, nor do I have any teaching experience. Am I eligible?
3). Does a volunteer teacher receive salary payments or travelling expenses?
4). Do the hours spent on pro bono tuition count towards voluntary service hours?
5). Can I update or cancel the particulars registered?
Pairing
1). How long do I have to wait to be paired up with a student upon successful registration?
2). What is the pairing process like?
On the day of the first appointment meeting, our representative will take charge of the meeting, including verifying the identities and the eligibility of the student and volunteer teacher, distributing handbooks and documents, explaining rules and guidance of services, exchanging telephone numbers, signing documents, and confirming with the volunteer teacher and the student the details of their subsequent tutorials. Finally, a photo will be taken to acknowledge the successful pairing of the volunteer teacher and the student.
3). Can a volunteer teacher be paired up with more than one student?
The First Appointment Meeting
1). What will be the flow like in the first appointment meeting?
On the day of the appointment meeting, our representative will arrive at the venue beforehand to find seats and to liaise and meet with the volunteer teacher and student. During the meeting, would the volunteer teacher please present HKID for verification of identity and sign the Liability Disclaimer Agreement and Declaration of Sexual Conviction Records. Moreover, our representative will distribute handbooks, explain to the volunteer teacher and student the rationale, format and rules of our tuition service, let both parties to exchange telephone numbers to ease their future communication. There will also be sufficient time for the student/parent to brief the volunteer teacher the current studies of the student, and then discuss with the volunteer teacher to sort out the most suitable mode of tuition and details of the subsequent tutorials. Finally, our representative will take a photo of both the volunteer teacher and the student for pairing confirmation and internal record purposes.
2). I have not received the prospective student’s personal particulars before the appointment. How am I supposed to recognize him/her?
3). Does tuition start at the first appointment? What do I need in preparation?
4). The first appointment has been fixed with the student, but I have to change the date because something has come up, what do I do?
